Ultrasound can make gesture controls on your smartphones actually useful

At trade shows like Mobile World Congress, it’s natural that attention is lavished on the newly unveiled flagship devices soon to hit the market. But, snoop around the booths long enough, and you’ll also find the tech that’s ready to go, but just not yet available to the public. So it is — hopefully — with Elliptic Labs, creators of some of the smoothest smartphone gesture controls I’ve ever seen.

Elliptic Labs’ tech is based on ultrasound, which allows the company to monitor movement in a 360-degree dome surrounding your smartphone. Strava updates its Apple Watch app with GPS support

The popular fitness network Strava has updated its iOS app so it can run independently on the Apple Watch 2 which features built-in GPS. The update comes a couple weeks after the Android Wear version of the app was updated with the same functionality.

Strava says Apple Watch 2 users will be able to record their time, pace, distance, speed, and heart rate directly on the Watch. To access the new untethered features, just update the Strava app on your iOS device.

LG to debut its own virtual reality SteamVR headset at GDC 2017
